Why See La Gringa?
When New Yorker Maria Elena Garcia returns to her native Puerto Rico for a Christmas vacation, she is looking forward to connecting with her homeland and her extended family. As she hopes to pin down her identity it becomes apparent that her return to the island throws up more questions than it answers.
Carmen Riviera's agreeable play highlights a search familiar to us all. As Maria Elena realises she is seen as an American in Puerto Rico and a Puerto Rican in America, she is disheartened, until she hears some sage words from her Uncle Manolo. Who teachers her that the essence of yourself isn't based on location, but what is in your heart.
Prepare for a delightful show that captures the spirit of the cross-cultural experience in 90 minutes of reminiscing and laughter.
