A Midsummer Night's Dream

A Midsummer Night's Dream at Atlanta Botanical Garden

Why see A Midsummer Night's Dream?

A Special Outdoor Production of A Midsummer Night's Dream

The deep forrest magic, wonder and mischief of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream comes to life at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens in a sumptuous new production from the Alliance Theatre this fall. Helmed by founding member of Chicago's Lookingglass Theatre Company David Catlin, this brand new take on the bard's most popular comedy brings together the supernatural, OTT farce and an effervescent ensemble of quirky characters for a rollicking evening you won't soon forget.

The story begins in Athens, where two young couples deal attempt to deal with love and all its complications, but escape the ire of their elders by taking flight into a nearby woods. Little do they know, the forrest is the enchanted realm of the fairies, overseen by Queen Titania and King Oberon, who themselves are quarrelling as lovers oft do. Thrown into the mix are a troupe of rude mechanicals rehearsing a poorly-devised play for Athens' royalty and the mirthful sprite Puck doing the bidding of his fairy lieges. Things become increasingly ridiculous and hilarious as the diverse group of characters become entangled in each other's affairs.
