Atlanta Symphony Orchestra - Tchaikovsky Symphony No 1

Why see Atlanta Symphony Orchestra - Tchaikovsky Symphony No 1?

Winter Daydreams

Virtuosic pianist Marc-Andre Hamelin graces the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra with his presence, joining them to perform Bela Bartok's vibrant Piano Concerto No. 3 at Symphony Hall. Following on from this, the orchestra performs Tchaikovsky's magnificent first symphony, known as the "Winter Daydreams" symphony.

Tchaikovsky's first significant work, Winter Daydreams is noted for its lyrical melodies and imaginative orchestration, reflecting the influence of Russian folk music and the composer's early Romantic style. The energetic, triumphant finale showcased his growing mastery of the symphonic form and his ability to infuse his music with vivid emotion and picturesque imagery.
